Metedeconk River Watershed
Overview
The Metedeconk River Watershed encompasses over 90-square miles of land in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
The river has a North Branch and a South Branch, which merge near the Garden State Parkway in Brick Township. There are also numerous named and un-named tributaries throughout the watershed.

The Metedeconk River flows through seven municipalities: Brick, Freehold, Howell, Jackson, Lakewood, Millstone, and Wall Townships.

Over its course, the river flows through a variety of environments, such as woodlands, freshwater wetlands, forested wetlands, tidal wetlands, and densely developed areas.

The Metedeconk River serves as the largest source of water for the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority, accounting for about 70 percent of the water supply. Brick MUA uses the Metedeconk to provide drinking water to more than 100,000 people.

The Metedeconk is a major source of fresh water to the Barnegat Bay. It also provides countless economic, recreational, and aesthetic benefits to the region.

Because of the importance of the Metedeconk River, the watershed community must work towards its long-term protection.
